Frequently Asked Questions
Insurance and Costs
-
I do not work with insurances in-network, but I do work with out-of-network insurance benefits. Many plans offer these benefits, which means you could get reimbursed for a portion of each session.
You don’t have to figure this out on your own. I can check your benefits for you and let you know exactly what you’d pay per session before we even get started using a platform called Thrizer. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may only owe a copay at each session instead of the full fee.
If you prefer not to use Thrizer, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

I’m not paneled with any insurances for many reasons! There is a lot of time, money and energy that goes into getting paneled, documenting, and billing appointments. This takes valuable space away from direct client care. Additionally, insurance companies can place restrictions on the therapeutic relationship, putting caps on the length and frequency of sessions, creating delays in care, and compromising client privacy.

Individual therapy sessions start at the following:
Clients in Ohio: $175 for 53 minutes
Clients in New York: $225 for 53 minutes
These discrepancies reflect the cost of living differences in each state.
I am committed to social justice and accessibility; therefore, I hold a limited number of sliding scale spots for those needing a lower rate. By holding a number of full fee and sliding scale spots, I am able to take care of myself while also providing accessible care to those who need it most.
Update: Currently, all of my sliding scale spots are full. As these spots open up, this page will be updated.

Call your insurance company and ask the following:
“Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health, specifically for CPT code 90837?”
“Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it?”
“What is my coinsurance/ what percentage of my bill will be covered after my deductible is met?”
“How do I submit a superbill?”
Thrizer can also give you an estimate of your out-of-network coverage for therapy if you sign up.

Consider whether paying for my services constitutes “sacrifice versus hardship.” In terms of sacrifice, this may mean cutting down on activities like eating out, getting your nails done, ordering coffees before work, or buying a new outfit. Sacrificing these things will not have a detrimental impact on your life long-term. However, if paying my full session fee would cause you to then be unable to pay rent, put food on the table, or afford your commute to work, this would have harmful long-term consequences and qualifies as hardship.
By paying my full fee, this enables other people undergoing hardship to afford accessible care.

I’m all for transparency, especially because I asked myself the same question when I was in your position! Little did I know everything that goes into a single session. Session fees cover education and trainings, time spent planning outside of sessions, and personal and business costs. Since this is a small business, it’s also covering costs like vacation, sick time, and health insurance, benefits that are typically included if you work for a company. Session fees also compensate for the high cost to simply exist in our capitalist system. Lastly, therapy is incredibly taxing! My energy is fully devoted to my clients in sessions. Showing up energized and attentive often means seeing fewer clients in a day- quality over quantity!

If you are uninsured or insured but self-pay, you have the right to receive a GFE for services. This estimate may change as the treatment progresses and is not a guarantee of treatment, length, frequency, or cost. If estimates or services are added or changed, you will receive a new GFE.
Getting Started
-
As of now, I currently have a waitlist for new clients. Please feel free to reach out to me if you’d like to be put on it.
-
I’m licensed to work with clients in New York and Ohio. This means that I can only work with clients who reside in those states.
-
I wish there was a direct answer to this question! There is no “one size fits all” approach. Each person is incredibly unique, so therapy looks different for everyone. It is also dependent on the number of goals you’d like to set and your willingness to work through them.
-
In our first session, I’ll get to know you a bit better and review the intake questionnaire that I’ll send you to complete prior to our initial appointment. A big question I often ask is, “What’s bringing you in to therapy?” I often ask follow up questions and we go from there! I’ll also ask questions about your background and history, support network, day-to-day routine, among other things.
Logistics and Scheduling
-
If you live in or around the Cleveland area, I see clients in-person at my office in Ohio City. There is free parking around the back of the building.
-
Yes! For folks who are located outside of the Cleveland, Ohio area or in New York, or who just prefer teletherapy, sessions are held online via a HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice.
-
I have a 24-hour cancellation and rescheduling policy. This means that if you’d like to cancel or reschedule over 24-hours in advance, no problem! However, if you cancel or reschedule within the 24-hour timeline, you will be charged the full session fee.

Therapists are licensed counselors that offer more emotional and behavioral support. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who prescribe medicine to treat various mental health disorders.
Therapists typically meet with clients on a more consistent basis, for a longer time, and utilize different modalities (i.e. EMDR, IFS, SE) to address specific concerns. Psychiatrists usually meet with patients less frequently after the initial appointment, for a shorter amount of time, and offer medication management.
